Rockfaced Treads

Elliott Stone Company foresaw the demand for a durable, economical and attractive material to be used for step treads, mantels, coping and hearths. We selected grey limestone for this use because of its superior hardness and lower water absorption as compared to other colors of Indiana limestone.

Over the past thirty years, hundreds of tons of Rockfaced Treads have graced fine architecture throughout the Eastern seaboard. Elliott Stone Company Rockfaced Treads are sawn on six sides and then a rockface is added. Uniform sizes and thicknesses makes Elliott Stone Rockfaced Treads easy and efficient to install. Being a product of nature, you should expect some variation in color from piece to piece. Since they are fabricated from grey Indiana limestone, our Rockfaced Treads share the same qualities of beauty and durability that has made limestone "America's Building Stone."

First commercially quarried in 1827, limestone from the hills of Southern Indiana has been used in familiar American landmarks such as the Empire State Building, the Pentagon, The National Cathedral and a host of other buildings, monuments, schools, churches and homes.
